Service Codes are codes representing the procedures, services, and supplies given by the practice. When QuickPractice uses the term "Service Codes," it refers to a number of code types used in the medical profession, including HCPCS (HCFA Common Procedure Coding Service), CPT (Common Procedure Terms), and the respective modifiers.
To enter a new Diagnosis Code, follow the steps below.
1. Go to the Codes menu and select Service Codes.
2. A window entitled Codes - Service will appear. Click on the Add button that is displayed on the toolbar near the top of the window.
3 . A new Add window is opened.
4. The Add window has three fields. Begin by typing the CPT number assigned for the desired code (e.g. 992129) in the Code field. Then press the tab key (or the enter key) to move to the Description field, where you can type the description of the service. Press tab again to move into the charge field, where you can enter the charge for the service.
Note: Do not enter the price that the insurance company will pay you. Enter the full price that you charge in your practice, or your set fee. Later you will make adjustments (write off) when entering payments from carriers.
5. Click on the Next button if you wish to enter another Service Code. Otherwise, click the OK button. You will return to the Codes - Service window, and the code(s) you just entered will be displayed.
6. You can also enter codes directly from a list of common codes that has been included in QuickPractice. Click the Master button that appears on the left side of the Add window. This opens an extensive list of Service Codes. Click on the code you wish to use, then click the Select button. You will return to the Add window, and the information for the code you selected will have been entered into the fields.
